| | (A) My computer model number is (1.25GHz PowerPC G4 eMac) _________________________ (B) My operating system is (OS X Tiger 10.4.11) __________________________ (C) My router model make and number is (Modem/Router - AT&T 2Wire 2701HG-B) ________________________ (D) The specific symptoms I am experiencing: Download/Upload connection is being shaped/throddled/capped for both bittorrent clients and secure linked downloads like montages, etc etc. _______________________________ I have AT&T Broadband DSL ( Elite - 6MB D, 768Kbps U). Running a static IPs on 2 computers on this network. My TCP listening port 59152 forwarded on the main computer. Using Transmission 1.22(don't mind switching). Speakeasy test verified an average(did about 10 tests) of 1310Kbps Down, 640Kbps Up. In my network administrator settings in my router/modem's IP, it reads 6016Kbps Down, 768Kbps Up. Any download from anywhere, not just bittorrent clients - I'm getting only 140-160Kbps. Uploading torrents/uploads in general I'm only getting about 40-70Kbps. I can provide screenshots and answer whatever, any help would be appreciated. __________________________________ Last edited by BORAT IS FOLLY; 07-02-2008 at 11:55 PM. | |||||

| | Sorry to break this to you, but those numbers sound right. 1.5 Mb download (or MB or mb I'm really not sure) as advertised seems to turn out to be 150-200 kbps. I have 5 Mb connection now and it's 500kbps. Same upload as you, same advertised. I'm DEFINITELY not being shaped or throttled. However, I believe uTorrent and Azereus can encrypt your packets so ISPs (for now) cannot decipher it as torrent/p2p traffic. They can however send you an angry letter informing you that your contract actually has a download limit per month. | |||||

The 1.31MB download read I got from speakeasy. It got no where near 6MB. I should be getting 500-700Kbps on downloads, easy. My Uploads I guess are fine but whatever. I could always switch to Azureus (<3 bulky software) and flip on that encryption to see if it will go up a bit. ...I can handle letters | |||||

| | Reset your modem, turn on protocol encryption. Your upload is right, download is about 1\4th.

| | Also try finding a fast server that will certainly be able to max out your connection, because you don't always get 750 kb\s on public torrents. Also, use uTorrent. I like it better, and it runs lighter. Just make sure you grab v1.6, not 1.7 or later.

| | Quick, stupid question: I have like 10 torrents seeding, and like 8 I've uploaded and seeding. When I install the other BT client, will it just transfer over or do I have to do some re-upping whatever? | |||||

| | You will have to re-import the torrents to the new client. If you still have the original .torrent files, then you're fine. It will take 30 seconds, if that.

| | Actually, now that I think of it, you didn't help me at all Low Strife lol. I bought AT&T elite, that's 6MB down, 768KB up. Yeah it's DSL. It shouldn't matter when I'm getting 140-160Kbps max down, and 40Kbps max up. What possibly could be wrong and how could I fix this; I think this is why you couldn't help Low - it's not simply for my torrents, it's everything. | |||||

| | See what your line stats are in your router settings. Look for sync speed, download attenuation and SNR (signal/noise ratio). Chances are your telephone line is poor quality and you're far away from your exchange, so you're getting a lot of static and noise on the line reducing your speed. | |||||
