Thanks for that, I'll look into it right now.

Although today a friend of mine who also had AT&T let me know that there is some 10 day activation period () in which the bandwidth is left untouched until the 10 days is over when they allow for my actual package to fire up.

DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair)
Protocol: G.DMT Annex A
Downstream Rate: 6016 kbps
Upstream Rate: 768 kbps
Channel: Fast
Current Noise Margin: 14.0 dB (Downstream) 14.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation: 45.9 dB (Downstream) 27.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Output Power: 19.6 dBm (Downstream) 11.9 dBm (Upstream)
PVC Info: 0/35

Eh?

That's weird. For such a high download attenuation I'm surprised you're getting almost the full speed. It's also weird that you're syncing at the full 6mb speed, but you're only downloaded at 140kbps -- you should be getting 500-600kbps.

Download something from microsoft.com. Their servers are very fast and should give you close to full speed.

Ok, there are sooo many more variables than just YOUR connection... you have to take into consideration the server's connection and how much the sevrer is being used... think of filefront... I get 350+ kbps on filefront sometimes, but sometimes I don't, it just all depends on the server.

Also, kbps =/= kBps.

kbps = kilobits per second and kBps = kilobytes per second.

8 bits in one byte, therefore, if you have 8mbps (8000kbps) your connection should say something around 1mBps or 1000kBps on a speedtest.

Also, last thing, speedtests lie pretty badly sometimes, lol.

This same thing happened to me and I just called my internet providers. They sent a technician to see if they could help and it turned out to be a bad wire outside that got chewed by a squirrel, now everything is just fine.

Download Speed: 1310 kbps (163 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 640 kbps (79.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

I got this from speakeasy the other day after 10 tests in sucession and added them together and divided to get the average. I think it's pretty accurate.

Scott- As fo the speed, I'm going to go grab something from microsoft right now.

Edit- Nope, still capping out at 160KB.

I heard something about AT&T having a 10 day activation period before they turn on the actual package you purchased? In my case, elite?
