I would get the AKGs if you really only plan on using them to listen to music and probably just rap/hip-hop at that. If you got the money, I think the Equation would be the better buy, and more comfortable if thats important to you.

RP21's have more bass. The AKGs bass is probably better though. I haven't heard either, I'm just going by what I read.

I still prefer the D1000s to both of those.

I would say Denon would easily outperform all of the headphones in everything beyond bass for the most part, and have a different bass that some will prefer to others. I do not have any of the headphones and am simply going by the reading I have done for my interest in bassy headphones. The AKG I'm guessing will have a boomy bass, which will sound like more, but this is essentially for someone looking for quantity over quality. The Denon, Equation, and M-Audio will all be able to get tighter bass and more distinguished range of lows than the AKG, from what I've read (something I personally like having that tigher defined bass than sheer quantity).

Budget: I don't care at the moment. Don't post like $500 cans. But anything <300 should be fine.
Usage:100% Musical Goodness
Preferred Sound Signature:Rock, Post-Hardcore, Screamo, Alternative, Indie-Alternative, Electronica, and the occasional classical CD. Ex: Chiodos, Dave Matthews Band, The Shins, Daft Punk, Infected Mushroom, LCD Soundsystem, Fishcherspooner, Modest Mouse, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Bright Eyes, etc. etc. I think you can get a feel by now.
Open or Closed: I don't care.
Additional Notes:
*I had some Sony noise cancelling headphones but I hated those damn things because I could never use the noise cancelling unless I sat straight up. The damn things would buzz in my ear. So unless you have the best noise cancelling headphones ever I'd like to steer clear of those.
*I also want some headphones that are gonna make my M-Audio Revolution 5.1 really worth the buy. I already really enjoy it, but I haven't been able to really test it out.

Sounds like you'd enjoy Ultrasone HFI-780s. They're getting some very very good reviews at the minute.

http://www.google.com/products?q=ult...oducts&show=dd

They sound very good for what you need. Don't need an amp either - Revo 5.1 should be fine.

There's also Denon D2000s, which I had and they're great. They're $230 on amazon I believe. The Denon's a more laid back/mellow and don't have the bass impact the Ultrasone's do. The Ultrasone's have a bit of emphasis on the treble, so if you're sensitive to it you might not like them, but they're still very good - more exciting and involving than the Denon's.

Either are good choices.

You really can't go wrong with those equation's especially if its your first actually headphone. Just don't get to analytical about the sound and you can save yourself lots of money from upgrades Once I get enough money, I am definitely going to get some DT990's maybe Darths, I am condemning myself to poverty even before getting my Q40s
