Turtle Beach and all the other crap headsets sound terrible and have poor build quality. I see no reason to buy them at all. Then again, I don't play XBL and haven't played properly for years. The A40s are pretty decent, but not worth $250. Even HD555s sound better than them.

Posts: 101 | Scott, are there any sets in the DT770 range that produce deep lows and higher lows well? Someone mentioned the M-Audio Q40, but I've only heard it recommended in that one instance. I'm not sure I'll ever get around to amping the DT770 and not sure if I should look elsewhere in that case. I'm just getting sick of my V6's cause there just too bright and make my ears bleed. Some people are also swearing by their AKG's (518dj's) to have better bass coverage, than the 770's lower boomy bass. The 770s just seem so comfy and thats definitely worth payin for.

Don't except them to be good for gaming. They have zero midrange because the bass is bloated and boomy which drowns out the mids. They're not very detailed and have a small soundstage too. Skullcandy annoy me. They market to the lowest common denominator so they can get away with having terrible sounding headphones because they look "badass". The worst part is, because they know everyone thinks bass = good sound, people actually think they're good. -_- Quote:
The 518dj's are a solid choice also. Great if you're looking for a >$80 option. Full review here: http://www.sonicflare.com/archives/r...headphones.php Last edited by Scott; 04-18-2008 at 08:59 AM.

Posts: 101 | I might just go with those Denon D1000's then. The thing I love about this headphone stuff is that its fairly easy to sell the headphones for around what you possibly paid for them. I'm sure I'll be happy with the D1000s, how do these amp? I have a Denon receiver at home and might try it out to see the difference. I wish I could just take it to school

| | My Denon D2000s didn't respond particularly well to an amp, and my amp is a pretty good one (Darkvoice 332). It tightened the bass and brought out the mids a little, but the highs became even more sibilant - especially when I tried Mullard M8100 tubes. I can't see it being much different with D1000s. They respond better to sources I think. The difference between onboard motherboard sound and my EMU 0202 was huge. | |||||
