Posts: 101 | I think I'll save up for those Beyerdynamics. Got any recommendations for an amp? I'm not sure if I ever learned correctly the way an amp help out headphones. I always though that 3.5mm jack couldn't provide enough power to the headphones so they under perform. Enlighten us!

| | How much are you willing to pay? Beyer's scale really well when amped so they'd be a good choice. Their bass is huge. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f42/fs...elcome-303271/ That's a very good deal. PINT is a DIY amp, built by a very reputable head-fi member MisterX who is known for his excellent building skills. It's a nice little amp, probably the best you're going to get under $100. A 3.5mm jack is fine, but as you get higher, amps start to use RCA as they're the standard for hi-fi equipment. But even then, a 3.5mm to RCA adapter still works fine if you don't have RCA jacks available. I don't know where you read that it can't provide enough power as that really isn't true. | |||||

Posts: 101 | I was just trying to figure out why simply changing to a different connection allowed for optimal use, but that must just be the fact that there is an amp present. My V600's came with one of those screw on connectors so I figured that was for an amp or something. Obviously I haven't done research on this; and I won't bite my tongue saying something stupid cause I really have no idea. Thanks for the help Scott! Now I just need to find a microphone I could mount to my face so I can game

Posts: 101 | Hey Scott, I have 2 questions! (Settled on the Beyerdynamic's so hopefully I can get those within the next few months. Thanks I'm looking for a decent clip microphone, I think they are called Lavaliers. Have an recommendations for a cheap one or are they all pretty much the same. I've heard the Sony ECM-T6 mention frequently: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation For the purpose of gaming, I think it would be sufficient. The bigger question I had, and I know you typically recommend M-Audio sound cards, are there any decent sound cards that have Optical-In that wouldn't break much over $100? I've had Bluegears/Auzentech before, but never found out why they wouldn't properly do surround sound with my Logitech z5500. I do play some hardcore computer gaming, but I also watch lots of movies and have music going almost 24/7. HT Omega's seem a bit expensive, but I could easily find used for cheaper. Any other suggestions?

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/ult...ne-mod-195242/ Very cool mod. As the sound card, I'm really not sure. I've never had any experience with optical - I've always used analogue. | |||||

Posts: 101 | I found the HT Omega Striker for about $80. How much better is a sound card vs onboard sound for headphones? I think that the Abit IP35 Pro motherboard has optical in and out onboard. Once I get the DT770s I'll put my thinking cap on and see what I come up with. For now, I think I'll try out that ECM-T6 with my V600s

| | A lot better. Even an Audigy SE is much better than onboard sound. The M-Audio Revolution 5.1 has better sound quality, as well as a better headphone amp than the Omega Striker. Last edited by Scott; 03-19-2008 at 05:01 PM. | |||||

| | I know I asked this like two months ago, but I need an amp still for my HD595s. You have any experience with the Headroom Airhead or Bithead amps? http://www.headphone.com/products/he...e-mobile-line/ Source = iPod. | |||||
