Wasn't me I guess, I was surprised I got mine for so cheap, a few days before that, i lost an auction that went up to $135. If I didn't win that auction, I was going to buy some Equation RP-21s or M-Audio Q40s.

Scott thinks gaming headphones in general are trash, & doesn't recommend them for gaming & music.

Got the Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Pros in! Doing some burn in right now but am impressed with the sound thus far. I think this needs restating though, those looking for bassy headphones need to know that even the Beyers won't make bass where there is none. I think this is something I was looking for, finding bass in songs that really never had all that much in the first place. I guess audio remastering is something I always wanted to get into anyways.

On a more positive note, these are definitely solid phones! Isolation is unbelievable and the comfort passed even my overly optimistic anticipation. When there is bass, they perform perfect. I typically listen to hip hop/rap, but when listening to rock, specifically Red Hot Chili Peppers, the bass guitar sounds like I have never heard before. I have been spoiled by the bass of speaker systems, but these headphones can mimic even the rumble of actual subwoofers, to the point of where I thought I was also playing music out of my speakers!!

Haven't tried with movies or gaming, but they will get their chance. I believe these are going to be my favorite pair of phones. I may get an amp down the road (wishes for a Hornet, but I think an iBasso D1 or D2 may be a more realistic buy). If I find that the DT990, if I ever get the chance to try them, outperform the DT770, I may pick those up. Definitely got to get these Darth Modded down the road.

In summary, Sony V600 = ear bleed and Beyerdynamic DT770 = everything I ever wanted in a headphone!

The DT990's are much better.. But lack the 'subwoofer' bass you IMO. But bass extends much deeper.. The bass is better defined, controlled, & tighter.. less quanity, but more quality.

Send a message via AIM to Scott

The best you can get is Alessandro MS1s for that price. Though they're mainly geared towards rock/metal - they're excellent though. Very fast, detailed and dynamic; their PRaT is insane like every Grado/Alessandro. A lot of people say they're uncomfortable though, but I guess it depends how big your head is lol.

A better all-rounder would be Audio Technica AD700s or Denon D1000s.
