Yeah, I would have to disagree. I think he'll be fine. I've never seen anyone ruin a career over the fun of a HR Derby. Just do it and don't try, who cares? I say it would be a good thing for the fans since there in NY.

I think he should, but I won't hold it against him if he does. Morneau actually messed his swing up last year from the HR Derby, and it apparently messed him up to the point hwere most of his batting stats fell off.

Going back on A-Rod's HR Derby Decision. I found this on ESPN and quoted Yankees Head Coach Girardi.


"I don't really have a problem with it. My biggest thing is, just don't get hurt," Girardi said, according to the Daily News. "If a player feels it messes with his swing, I understand him not wanting to do it. But if a guy wants to do it, I'm not going to say no."

Really Girardi? Way to point out the obvious there big guy. He really doesn't have much of a say of he goes or not. I mean he could suspend him if he didn't want him to but that's getting rid of your #1 hitter, so he basically has to say yes to it.

as for a rod, i honestly think the closest ive seen to a HR derby ruining a career was in jim thomes case. he tried so hard every year to win it, but never did and judging by what you saw when he came up, he never could. now look at where he is in relation to being a power hitter. idk i still think he should do it though.


and if rick ankiel doesnt get into the all star game.......
