Saying the Pledge completely with the "..One nation under god.." phrase goes against what I believe, and I choose not to say the Pledge, ever (unless, of course, it is changed, but that's unlikely). I stand for the Pledge, but that is to show respect to my country, to my flag and to the soldiers who do what they do for the country, and for a minimal amount of what your forefathers have believed. Our school is pretty lenient about whether or not you actually participate in reciting it. It's pretty much 'we'll do it and if you want to follow along go ahead' kind of thing. Oh well. It's not a big deal to me. | That's odd, maybe Indianapolis Public Schools are different because I've been going to IPS my entire school life and in grade school they never made us say it, we just did because we were young, but they made us stand at least. In middle school, we never HAD to say it, but were still asked to stand. Then in high school, we were never made to say it, but asked to stand, and that was only my freshman year. My sophomore, junior and senior year, they didn't even do the Pledge anymore. So... there basically was no Pledge of Allegiance in high school for me...

I believe that if you wish to say it, go ahead, and if you don't, don't, but I don't think anyone should be forcing the children and teens who live in America to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Forcing them to say the Pledge violates their rights as an America. If they're Jewish, Muslim, Buddist, or whatever, forcing them to recite the "Under god" phrase is wrong and against their freedom to choose their religion and follow as they should. (I'm done with the religious spiel, sorry about that).
So yea... I highly doubt I made any sense whatsoever in this post, but... meh. |
