Discuss.

Thing to Debate:

1.) How Chrisitan morals have shaped our judicial and politicial system.
2.) The Pledge (duh!)
3.) Anything else.

Monotheistic moral systems didn't just pop out of nowhere. I have full confidence that the world would be where it is today, probably better off, without the guidance of religion.

1) First of all, Christian morals didn't shape our Judicial system at all. The Congress was modeled after the Roman version of it. We even carry over a LOT of Roman architecture into our modern government buildings.

Our Constitution was modeled greatly after the English version, and somewhat after the Roman Republic's.

2) The words, 'under god', were ADDED to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 1950's, hundreds of years after the Pledge was created.

3) There is an incredibly amount of evidence strongly suggesting that the United States was in no way modeled to be a Christian nation. Our founding fathers went to great lengths to keep religion out of our government, and until others intervened, it worked great.

I think that our church and state are a good separation. Sure Christian belief has an effect on our country, but not like how Muslim belief has an effect on a middle eastern country. I am Catholic, so I am in the majority of people in the US, but I might have a diferent opinion if i was of a different religion.

see, i'm agnostic, therefore, i have a completely different view.

pick a law, any law.

you can see a basic chrisitian/catholic moral value behind it.

and someone said that we could be better off than we are now without religoin. thats possible, but we have religion to thank for much of what we have come to know. the world benefits from religion and religion benefits from the world. (for the most part...)

our buildings are modeled off greek architecture.
the romans modeled their architecture off them.
its greek.

and i dont think it matters WHEN the words were added to the pledge. we dont all agree and i would rather not say the pledge yet i've been sent to the office for not doing so.

i never said we were modeled to be a christian nation. i was just saying, christians run our nation. name one person with an ''alternate'' religious background (anything but christianity/catholicism/judaism) who has had their hand in politics. if our nation is run by chrisitians, consequentually, we will end up with christian values in our society. even the president is christian.

all im saying is that even though we have Seperation of Church and State, religion is still part of our society and a MAJOR part of our political system, though inadvertant.

faith = stupidity according to darth hulk, which i agree with. And as far as i know religion teaches things that you can learn on your own and all it does is brings wars over who's is right.

personally, i think faith isnt stupidity. i think it is blindness. its believing in a religion simply because it is the easy way out.

or not...
