| | alright, heres the deal, my dad is a super super strong chrstian, like X-core christian, and he eeps telling me to go to church, and god will have mercy on me, all of that christianity stuff. the thing s though, for reasons of my own, im atheist. therefore, i dont want to go to church, im not interested in christian beliefs, and i dont want to f..king pray at night. so i need to tell him that i dont believe, but if i d, he might pull off that,"your going to hell now!" bullsh.t on me, in other words, hed be pretty pissed, and thats in small proportion of what he would do. so can someone please tell me how i should tell him or w/e, thx

| | Dont. Its your religion. You do what you want w/ it and what not but dont let ANY ONE , not even your father, tell you who to belive in. Im a very strong christian my-self and I respect everyones religion. Bring that up to him. If he loves you that much he should respect what you want. Honestly.

| | Of course once you tell him, he will obviously be disappointed. But being the christian he is, he shouldn't be angry with you simply because your not a christian. if he is angry, its because his own efforts in raising you as a christian have failed. I reckon your dad will be extremely sad more than angry. I know if I told my parents I wasn't a christian(altho i am a christian), they would be in tears, not angry. Christians are taught not to judge people because of who they are, but to try their best to spread the word of God to others. He will mostly likely sit you down and talk with you about it, and ask you why you don't believe. Although be prepared for an outburst of sadness or a period of him not accepting what you've told him. It will be tough for him to take I imagine. All the best breaking it to him. | |||||

| | You do need to tell him this, just because he is your father. Just tell him that you do not believe in god, and that you are an atheist, and that you don't see the logic for you to go to church. You are 17, almost 18 (if i'm right..?), so you are old enough to make your own decisions about your religion, believing or not believing. He is your father and he should understand, also like Tommy Tiddles said, he is a christian and they are taught not to judge people. Just be honest with him, tell him that you are an Atheist and that you don't see the logic in going to church, but if it makes him really happy, go to church once with him, not everytime, just sometime, he is still your father and you should respect your parents. Edit: if your dad has an anger management problem, and he likes his fist to teach discipline. Tell him that he is using Satan's ways to let ppl respect him, and that is not what God wanted him to. You SHOULD tell your dad, just because you shouldn't have to hide it from him. Screw parent-child confidence, you simply don't have to take that crap from him. Let him know what you believe, and leave it at that.
