No mental disorder here. Many atheists, like myself, WANT there to be an afterlife of bliss, but the evidence for such an afterlife is pathetically non-existant, despite what many christians claim.

I would think life as a christian would be far more bleak than life as an atheist.

The will to survive is what keeps 99.9% of the mentally stable population 'driven' until death. Faith has little to do with it. Evolutionarily, creatures without the will to survive have, well, died out. It's hard-wired into your genetics.

Than it's a damn good thing your theory is worth less than the corn I sh.t out this morning.

I guess I'm failing to see our point of conflict...since I thought, originally, it was centered around what these camps are teaching. But you said that was all fine...so what are we discussing, now?

I hardly think that these "pulic", "Jesus Camps" teach kids to go blow eachother up. Your weak linkage of terrorism and religion don't really apply in this case...especially when you're talking about modern Christianity. As you've stated, the moderates outweigh the crazies, now-a-days.

Don't you think most of us have seen the wrongs committed by our ancestors in history? Do the Germans still put Jewish kids in concentration camps?
No...but there are still "skin heads" and "neo nazis" running around...are you going to attack all of Europe because they exist, or because of THEIR history?

Sounds like you're just mad because you didn't have a camp to go to when you were young, and impressionable.

"Blowing each other up 10 years later" and "devastating to children" are pretty severe exaggerations on your part, son.

It's ok...all you missed was a week or so away from home where you could associate with a co-ed group of kids who were around your age and held a common interest. It's not that big of a deal.

From my experience at these so called "Jesus Camps", I had a ton of fun with other kids who shared common interests as I did. As a matter of fact, their wasn't much focus placed on God or Jesus at all - it was mostly the theme of unification and discovering yourself. Sure, at night and before meals we prayed, and read from the Bible, but nothing like brainwashing occurred... they weren't trying to convert or hammer the idea of God into our heads.

I'm kind of offended, or maybe ashamed, is the right word - that you guys condemn something like this that is aimed at improving the quality of life of those attending and those who are affected by the camp. Just because Christianity isn't something you believe in doesn't mean you have to condemn an activity in its name.
