As for the video...

Never been to a camp like that so I don't have much to say.

If our laws are ever interwoven with any belief system, I'll leave the country.

Sparky, out.

I couldn't possibly think any less of Christians than I do already.

Like I said before, these types of camps are incredibly devastating to children. Like the Jesuet said, "give me the boy for his first seven years, and I will give you a man". If you don't know what I meant by that, you ought to do some reading...
Well...I'm assuming that Eric had some type of reservation from saying that phrase...since he asked how to "get out" of it.
But yeah...you can ask to leave, and they will let you....or talk to one of the "councelors" or "preachers" and let them know that you don't wish to be there. It's not hard to "get out" of a privilige.

Devastating, huh?
Really?

According to Dictionary.com:

dev‧as‧tat‧ing  /ˈdɛvəˌsteɪtɪŋ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[dev-uh-stey-ting] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
.adjective
1. tending or threatening to devastate: a devastating fire.
2. satirical, ironic, or caustic in an effective way: a devastating portrayal of society.

dev‧as‧tate  /ˈdɛvəˌsteɪt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[dev-uh-steyt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
.verb (used with object), -tat‧ed, -tat‧ing.
1. to lay waste; render desolate: The invaders devastated the city.
2. to overwhelm.

Ok...so you're saying that sending kids to "Jesus Camp" renders them useless? Or it overwhelms them?
Give me your child and I'll make a man out of him in 7 years???

Dude...what the hell are you talking about???

Just because kids go to a place where they can enjoy a week or so away from the actual world, by their own choice, might I add....that doesn't mean that they are brainwashed and raped of their childhood.

What the f..k are you smoking???

You know what they teach at camp?

First, and foremost...Respect. Love. How to socialize with other kids...without falling temptation to things like Drugs and Alcohol. How to "court" or "date" the opposite sex...with an even tougher stress on abstinence. Patience. How to express yourself in terms of talent and ability. How to be a good sport. To watch out for your friends and those you care about. How to serve someone else, rather than how to be selfish. How to tolerate those that you don't care for....no matter how ignorant or retarded they sound.

By the way...when DID you say this before?

What you said was a pretty ignorant thing to say...especially since you're so biased against it (and apparantly have NO CLUE about what goes on at one). At least Achilles isn't accusing the entire idea of being a complete stripping of child-hood innocence.

Maybe you should attend one of the camps as an independant research project or something. That way, you could tell us how you feel about it all, and you won't sound so retarded.

Devastating.....pssshhhhh!!!!

Not useless, just brainwashed. Children are incredibly mallible in their younger years, and when you positively re-inforce a idea (even a bad one) it becomes en-trenched in their minds. Christianity has, overall, had a negative impact on the world. Open a history book, and see for yourself.

Your ignorance of your own religion's history amazes me.

Since when do kids under the age of 10 have a choice? Even if they were given a choice, they aren't old enough to understand what they are agreeing to.

All of which is Christian ideology. Abstinence is the stupidest idea anyone has ever come up with. Could you imagine marrying someone with ever having sex with them before hand? Well, those of us who have actually had sex know that sometimes two people just aren't sexually compatible; and I sure as hell wouldn't want to spend 60 years with someone I hated having sex with.

Positive reinforcement is all that is. In fact, I used that ideology to potty train my dog. It works wonders on furry animals, and small children.

Not as ignorant as you make it out to be. You, however, seem to be very ignorant to the mallibility of children at a young age...

Maybe I will! I think that's a great idea!!! I'll do it next summer! It will sell millions of copies to the non-believers of the world!

Did you even watch the video? They were teaching the children the EXACT same ideology that terrorists in the middle east learn. Re-watch it, and com back in this thread...

Quite frankly...this trailer doesn't bother me that much.

You have a wellspoken 10-year-old who was probably scripted to say that crap...some chick who draws parallels between extremist Middle Eastern culture and Christian camps for the willing...and then they probably picked the absolute most "shocking" camp they could. Let's face it, first of all, it's not the camp that's getting them into Jesus, it is ALWAYS the parents that have Christian influence on their kids. The only argument I have with these people is your general "stop telling them what to think" argument. They're no different than parents that take their kids to church every day.

This movie obviously has its points...we don't want our kids growing up to be close-minded evangelical nutbags. But what can you do? Parents will raise their kids how they choose. The only thing we can do is throw the view of objectivity out there and hope people listen to it. One thing is for certain though, the "war on Christianity" and the government-morality fight are coming to a head. We'll see who wins...but in my honest opinion, I think gays and Muslims will be able to rest their heads soon enough.

I don't know if you realised this, but I'm not actually going to a camp, I was just bringing that up.

Like Lemon said...we don't want them to be nuts, like those crazies out there...it was probably the worst possible side you could see of it, and that's how it was presented. You don't think these kids are going to get in touch with some of the real world to understand the weirdos? You're under estimating their abilities, my friend. Its the idea behind what they put out there in a metephorical way. But this is their reality...because this is how the real world operates, and this is one of the most recent subjects readily available for discussion....so why not talk about it in church?

While, again...yes...you are referring to the fanatics of our history...I'm not advocating any type of war on any type of person. Not all of us are like the crazies you talk about...and everyone has them.

Tell me your religion. I'll find five of your own kind just for sh.ts and giggles.

Religion.
So like I said...there are other ways out. Do something stupid. I'm a freaking Christian, and I just told you how to ditch church camp. Hell...they'll even give you a free ride back, all by yourself!

So what? It's equal rights for all religions, man. It's OPTIONAL and a PRIVILIGE! You can get kicked out of it. Jesus camp is not a hazing ritual...so what's the problem?

Who cares if abstinence is stupid?
Yeah...I have sex, too. But thanks to my beliefs, and how I chose to carry myself as a result of my lessons learned at church camp helped me wait until I was 19. I had several chances from 14-years-old on that I turned down because I was smart enough to wait until after High School (and I chose to be abstinate until I graduated High School from some of the lessons taught from Church Camps), when I fully understood how it all worked, and that I didn't want to f..k around and have a kid in High School. Look around on the forums...you'll see...other kids around here have had scares as a result of starting early on in their sexual "career".

They may not all be "practical"...but the ideas are very uplifting for society, and the individual. So you can't really they're all bad.

Cute.
But you can't criticise all parents for wanting to instill good values in their kids. It's a good socializing event...kinda like boyscouts and all that, but religiously based.
Jewish kids and Muslim kids have it too.
They're great.

But hey...you should.

Yeah...I made a few edits.
But either way...re-read my previous response.
This is modern day life...go check one out for yourself, and see if they tell you to go blow yourself to "smithereens".
They won't.

I'm as much for that as you are.

In the grand scheme of things, the number of fanatics is greater than the number of moderates. It's only a condition of the past 50 years that this condition has been reversed (as is true today).

I have no religion. And yes, I know Stalin was an atheist; but Hitler was a die-hard Catholic, and he might not even be the most evil character in all Christian history...

Right, I understand that you can get into a fight and get out of camp, but before one resorts to being an ass, why wouldn't they just ask to leave? The answer to that question is they are afraid to ask. . .

There's nothing wrong with it.

Why risk the objectiveness of children just so they can have a positive message? There are plenty of other healthy ways to give kids confidence.

Right, but I can blame them for making an active effort to instill their own values in their kid before their kid even has any idea what's going on.
