Our supposed knowledge can only go as far as we perceive. Since we cannot stand there, staring at a chair, and comprehend it's nonexistence, we have to conclude that it exists, or accept that it MAY not exist, but is more probable that it does in that there is more evidence proving its existence than evidence proving otherwise.

If you do not want to believe in God, you never will. There can be no scientific proof, simply because God is not physical or material, he is spiritual and infinite. Science is the observation of material phenomena in this universe, and then applying our reason and logic to understand and control them. By definition, God cannot exist as part of this universe, cannot be composed of matter, and cannot even exist in time. But even things in this world cannot really be proven with 100% certainty. Entire books have been written about how the U.S. space program has been faked by the government. All you have to do is set the standards of proof high enough, and absolutely nothing can be proven. Proof is a tricky subject. As the old Greeks like Euclid discovered, all proofs have to rely on at least several assumptions (which they called postulates) which cannot themselves be proven. So a person who demands hard proofs is doomed to failure.

I could care less if I exist to you. It is all dependent on if you exist to me. To me my couch exists. Maybe not to you, but hell who cares about you.

You are not me. And are therefore insignificant.

A better question for you would be why do you choose to believe that both the chair you cannot prove exists and the god that you cannot prove exists. What makes them equal when you can see one, you can touch one, and you can throw one if you are mad?

There is scientific proof that god is real, to an extent. Cause and effect theory, look it up. It basically says that (and dont quote me, find the real paper on it) everything in the world/universe has a proverbial cause, which brought it to what is is doing. IE, you made a space on the screen because you pressed the space bar. You woke up early because you had to go to school(if you have school), etc etc. If you draw things back far enough, you get to the origins of the universe. The unvierse, for it to come into being, must have had a cause, ie somone/something must have began the cycle of cause and effect, this cause is called the "First Cause", and is considered God. Again, don't quote me on this, just google it or something.

In my opinion "god" is the human manifestation of the mind. In so many ways you could think about things, find asnswers but then theres those questions that no one can answer, these answers are simply andswered in some form relating to "god". I think that science>Religion, why is it you look to science to prove everything but when it comes to the big bang and evolution you cant look at it as possible? I dont know about you but I think thats more believable then any answer backed by your "god". Some cling to a cross because they are tired and lost.

First, if it didn't exist then how could i read your message.

Second, asking a question in an effort to direct attention away from a question that you can't answer is weak, weak, weak.

But my point is simple. You use your senses to attain that knowledge of the natural world around you, and since the senses are part of that physical world, they are flawed, but only the mind and the soul are incorrupted, according to Plato. Therefore, it isn't through the senses that we comprehend something, it's in the mind, and it has been placed there so that when we observe it in the natural world, we can recollect what has been placed there. Only through God has it been placed there, and it couldn't have arised elsewhere. Remember that Plato believed the world to be eternal, yet scientific data that you stand by proves otherwise, meaning that all knowledge hasn't been eternally grafted into our minds, but placed there by something else.

Now, someone will say that expirience is where we learn and how we attain information. We know that an equilateral triangle is not really equilateral triange unless we close our eyes and vision it in our minds. Now this is a question that has been puzzling me: If I were to draw an equilateral triangle and then close my eyes and imagine an equilateral triangle, which one would be more real?

Just a side note to this discussion, I found this really good series about the origins of the universe and it plays back and forth with scientific evidence and how several times physicists began to believe in the existence of god. It also toys with the idea of reality. It's a really interesting series and I would suggest watching videos 1 through 4 (?) I believe. Link: http://www.dumpalink.com/media/11561...out_The_Cosmos
Ps: To watch the next 3 videos just search "Cosmos" on the search bar located on the left hand side of the screen.
