I phrased that incorrectly.

You read it as if I wasn't directing it towards anyone.

I was writing in response to society failing because of a lack of God. I simply stated that there is no room for God, then basically said [but it's possible that the society fails] because of communism's problems. I left that part of the sentence implied, my fault.

Oh. I thought you were referring to the nature of the philosohpies - not the adaptation of the theory itself.

Popes and other religious leaders meet with state leaders often, the Pope most likely thought it'd be a nice gesture to bless Castro and his country. I doubt Castro would ask to be blessed, since he claims to be an atheist and was already excommunicated.
Castro invited the Pope to Cuba, and he asked for a blessing from god. Now, there are two reasons for doing that: 1) he wasn't as big an atheist as he'd let on; 2) he was doing it for political gain.

Reasons for 1) it would be easier to keep Cuba's population non-religious of their loved and adored leader was an atheist.

Reasons for 2) it was just a political stunt. 2 is obviously the more likely possibility.

And yes, I do fully understand that Castro was ex-communicated.

I'm glad this thread was made.

You know, these days people forget that originaly, religion was like science, it was considered fact. Ofcourse it quickly ended with the coming of other religions that contradicted it. Then it became a "I'm right and you're wrong" situation. After other religions, Scientific discoveries delt the first major blow to religions.
They continue to do so. Now religion's argument to science is that since humans have addapted so well to science and abandoned religion are "empty inside".

I don't believe I have a void inside of me. But that doesn't mean I abandoned my religion. I still believe in God, heaven and everything else. But I also believe other scientific theories that contradict religion.
If science continues to plow through religiouse debates, I believe the exsistance of God will be the last beliefe Religions will have that is still not proven false by science.

My theory is that, in time Science and Religion will come to one, ultimate compramise. In which both are held equal. Wether it comes from a scientific break-through that proves the existance of a higher power (God) but in an environment completely different then that described by any religion that believes in God. Or another type of break through that holds a question that no amount of scientific research can answer, one that can only be answered by religion.

Nah... Maybe a little, but not entirely. Because believe it or not...but it still is just THEORIES, not proof.

You need to know what a scientific theory is before you diss it. It isn't taught correctly in H.S.

I thought it was an acceptable idea of how or why something occurs. i.e. The Big Bang Theory, Darwins Theory, etc. I realize that it is backed up by some evidence...but theres no PROOF.

That's mostly becuse the church went all "We're the ultimate authority. STFU NO GRAVITY!!11!!!1" on him. Unchallengable power. That system has a tendancy to fail.

Philosopher, not a scientist. His views were more of guess's and hunches and not really of research/facts.

Rev.

Research first please. Galileo crushed what the Catholic church said.

It wasn't necessarily Galileo vs Religion, it was Galileo vs mindless brainwashing.
