All separation of church and state means is that there can't be any laws recognizing religion or giving one religion preference over another. It doesn't mean that the value systems of religion and government can't coincide with each other.

One of the best ideas to come along in all of human history. An ideal in which religion and government are seperated and kept at arm's length from each other. A form of government in which the people's free exercise of religion is guaranteed, but the religious fanatics have no power to harm others. An ideal that is under attack at all times from religious extremists - who seek to destroy it, not out of any sense of piety, but in order to dominate and control other human beings.

hes letting his religous beliefs stop stem cell research affecting the other people of the united states meaning hes forcing his religeous beliefs on people

Read Darth Hulk's post, then rant from a slightly different angle.

This is the first amendment of the Constitution:

Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It doesn't say anything about the president.

I think the government should operate as far away from religion as possible, but that's just what I think...

I don't think politicians should base their decisions around religion, but then again, there's a good deal of voters who vote around their religion, and a good deal of politicions that want to exploit that for a few votes.

Seperation of Church and State is the best thing since sliced bread. What we need is a good sense of doublethink... Politicians who make their decisions independantly of their beliefs for teh betterment of teh peoples!11!!.
I</3 politics.

I think Bush has the capability to be a good leader, but I disagree with his policies on stem cell research. When embryos are left in the "freezer" after invitro-fertilization and need to be taken out to make more room for more embryos after they have been left in there a few years, they used to be thrown away. But with the new bills proposing they be used for stem cell research instead of being thrown away, I don't see how Bush can disagree. Why waste anything?

Bush is 100% against stem cell research - that was one of his big points in his 2004 campaign.

I think your a little confused on what embryonic stem cell research is - you don't do work on 'dead' embryos, they have to be alive in order for them to reproduce.
