I still think there is a certain level of stupidity inherent. Considering that I'm pretty sure he believes it. I think I might have heard him speak in person once.... **shudder** Never again....

Ironically enough, in a lot of his videos he talks about how the government is wasting tax payer money on science text books.

Yeah.

If I recall, it started out as a snafu with local authorities over tax exempt status - this, coupled with repeated obstinancy towards the feds, gave him ten years.

That was the snafu that I was referring to. Lots more than that, though. Apparently if he had just shut up early on and done what the fed and state gov't said to do, he wouldn't have gotten in as much trouble.

From what I understand, the authorities were more than willing to work with him so that he could avoid prison time, and even keep all 10 (I believe) of his properties. Hovind refused to help, at all, and hid most of his money and property deeds from the government. The government was well within their power to give him 10 years. He owed over a million in back taxes - he could have gotten 20 years, or more. All things considered, he got off fairly easy.

Yeah, and the absurd thing was he believed that because he was working "in God's name" that he shouldn't have to pay taxes for "God's money"
