Even if we were to receive a signal from some alien lifeforms (which is about as likely as that ocean falling on that specific grain of sand), there's a good chance that it will be so old that the senders' solar system may not even exist anymore.
I think you forgot about the other life forms, what is to say that they are not greater advanced than us and have the ability to reach us? Humans in our present state will not be able to leave our solar system in the near or far future. However, other life forms may be able to travel from galaxy to galaxy and know the ways of the universe.

But, seriously, time does have something to do with contact. The more time you have, the greater chance you have of making contact with something. Yes, there are millions of years still to come, but we've already had a good number of years to have made contact with any extraterrestrial life. (Probably spelled that wrong) If you can be skepitical about Christianity, then I can be skeptical about life on other planets.

PS: I don't believe many primitive species have developed weapons that can destroy the living world as they know it.
We're primitive in terms of how long we've shared our life in this universe.

You're in no position to say we should have made contact already.

The factors that would indeed prohibit contact are so complicated and dependant on certain things like distance, time, etc etc that it is as good as random that we would make contact.

We've had, what, a few hundred thousand years?

Do you know how many new species of life are discovered on our own planet every day? Do you have any idea how truly vast the universe actually is? A few hundred thousand years isn't even enough time for light from most of the objects in our universe to reach our planet, let alone for us to go looking.

There are more galaxies in the universe than there are stars in our galaxy. Again, the speed of light prohibits us from even knowing most of what's out there for longer than the period of time that our solar system has existed.

Time, distance, etc. are all human ideas and theories that only work on our planet and in our solar system.
