Honestly, from the past couple of days of posting in this section it has come to my attention that there is a large atheist population on this forum. (Yes, NiceGuy this is a generalization but I would like to get some reactions.) I myself am a Christian and am probably a Christian because that is how my parents raised me, Sunday School every week. I'm not sure if I would be if this had not been the case, but I don't really care. I am just wondering, why are you an atheist? Were your parents religious, over-religous, atheists, or what? I'm curious as to why you choose the path of non-believing. (I have a feeling you'll be posting NiceGuy )

Because I was born and raised non-religious, and told to think for myself.

Raised Christian but I just always read science books and my encyclopedia and shortly after not believing in Santa, I stopped believing in God too. My friends didn't really turn atheist for a good while after.

EDIT: I made the decision entirely myself. I didn't even know many people were atheist. Hell, I didn't even know there was a word for it lol.

My reason for me being an Atheist are simple: I find no reason to believe in God.

But the person who made the thread stated that hes a christian just because he was born into a christain family.

I did indeed. That is one of the reasons I am Christian, but not the only. I was confirmed into the Methodist church a couple years back, and that course is really what made me into the ideal "Christian". If I had not had this background, I'm unsure what religion, if any, I would follow. I would probably lean toward still being a Christian, but without the background experiences I don't know. The point of this thread was to find out why people chose Atheism over religion.
