| | I arrived home today after one of my classes to find that I recieved an email from Facebook. This was a notice of a group invitation in which some of my friends wanted me to join. The group was named "Do NOT support The Golden Compass". I was intrigued having never heard about this movie before so I went and looked at the group. For those of you who havnt heard of The Golden Compass, its a trilogy of younger aged based science fiction novels. The vague discription that the facebook group gave was that, "this movie is based on a the first book of a trilogy by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God so they can do as they please." Now if you have seen previews for this movie then you can see something very clearly. It is directed towards children. Animals can talk, and they have very simple dialect. ITS HIGHLY FICTIONAL. All its takes is one watch of the trailer to see that even a child would not take this movie seriously. You can watch it at http://www.imdb.com/video/trailer/me60480803. I can see how the religious community might have a hissy fit over movies like The Da Vinci Code. The movie made some neat points and was actually somewhat convincing, but this movie is SO much different. It makes no remarks about christianity or any other major religion from what I've seen and it is so fictional you could easily deam it more magical then Harry Potter. POLAR BEARS TALK, WALK UPRIGHT, AND EVEN WEAR GOLD PLATED ARMOR. I mean seriously? Does the religious community really have to try and boycott a movie just because it has some kids killing a fictional god?

| | The religious community is in a uproar. The fact that their was even a facebook group named and that it already has 62,000 members should tell you something. Go to any christian site and ask about the movie. They will all give you the same "It promotes Atheism and tries to tell our children to kill God" rant. Google it.

The church will always find something to complain about, and plenty of christians to blindly rally behind them. The movie wont get banned, but with this much opposition against it, it most likely wont have many sequels. Which is a shame because it looks to have a lot of potential.

I wonder if they are actually worried about people who watch this movie actually find a way to kill god. I wonder if this movie has actually figured out how to kill god
