Steggy, I'll just beat you to it and make you get the 965.

If you own a i7/i5/i3 come post here. Talk about it and what not

i7 rocks my socks. nuff sed.

No but for realz... I have had this setup at stock clocks and I am extremely happy with it. I would like to OC it but I don't really know where to start. i did a lot of research but I came to find out that the steps to do it change for every setup. I'm just afraid of screwing up my seks machine.

i can lead you through a little bit of it, EVERY CHIP IS DIFFERENT.

My first X58 board was an EVGA , then Rampage II, now back to EVGA Classified E759.

It was supposed to be a i7 965 thread haha.

I'm in the process of building a computer now. I've been slowly ordering the big parts that I can use before I complete the desktop, like taking care of the std:out stuff like the video/sound. I might get the desktop components starting around now, but I have to hold off getting the 965 because i'm going to get an INSANE deal on it, but it'll be a short while until i can get it, and i don't want to tempt myself to buy a 920 by having the rest of the desktop right in front of me, you know what i mean?

Anyhoo, the setup should be as follows.
CPU - Intel Core i7 965 @ 3.2Hz for an undisclosed price :-p http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?2E16819115200
PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V 99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005
MOB - ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 209.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131386
RAM - mushkin 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM - 139.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226030
HDD - Western DigitalWD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 104.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136284
GPU - XFX HD-485X-YDFC Radeon HD 4850 124.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150337
CAS - Antec 900 109.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021
CDD - Lite-on DVD Burner/Bluray Drive 99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106277
MON - Viewsonic Vx2260wm 209.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116400
SND - Swan M10 2.1 Speaker System 109.99 http://www.theaudioinsider.com/produ...products_id/89
MSE - Logitech G5 - Already have
KBD - Probably a cheapo IBM for now since i'm used to my thinkpads keyboard so much

Haven't decided on the heatsink/cpu fan. Probably going for the megahalem for the heatsink.

Edit: your link to the CPU is for the 920 btw.

This thread should have been titled "LGA 1366 CPU owners thread".
Leave out the "official". It's gay, and unless you work for Intel, it's not really "official".

I reallly thought about getting an i7 setup to help with my SLI scaling but decided against it. But the looks of i5, that might be my next "upgrade".

Steggy - Why the 965? Wanting to do some beast OC/editing?
