I've been playing for a few months. I have a cheap Yamaha. I dunno the model number it was like a hundred bucks. I'm thinking about getting a nicer one for Christmas.

What type of strings do you guys use?? I was in the music store today picking up some new strings, and I have always wanted to try light strings (I always use medium). But, I don't feel like blowing 6 bucks on strings and going through all the sh.t to change them. Is it worth it? Benefits?

I am currently sporting some Elixir Anti-Rust guitar strings. I love them for the simple fact that they last FOREVER, and do not rust. I HATE the feeling of rusted strings, and they snap a soon as you bend them.

In fact, I can not even remember the last time I changed my strings...

My strings are "Super Light" (.009 - .042) The difference of gauge (light, medium...) is generally the "twangy-ness" of the sound (lighter strings) versus more bass-like tone (heavier strings).

Also, lighter strings are easier to bend.

I use light strings, for the previously mentioned reasons.

I have 3 packs of the Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings sitting on my amp with another pack of Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky. Great strings.

I used to use Slinky's all the time, until I discovered the magic of Elixer's anti0rust strings.

Those baby's feel as good today as when I put them on 4 months ago.

Also, I am making progress in "Satch Boogie". I pretty much got the intro and the some after that, but may I say, Joe Satriani is a beast.

A lot of Satch's stuff is a little simplistic....but yes, he is a beast.

Out of curiosity,
do you play in any tuning out of standard, drop c, and drop d?
because i've been playing on CGDGBd on my acoustic with differing capo positions. I haven't touched my electric in the past months ...
so yeah,
any different tuning folks out there?

those strings are so worth the 10 extra dollars,
they sound great but my fingers actually got calloused for the first time in years while playing on those anti-rust strings.

Ha, I used to play in drop C back in my System of a Down days. But now, mostly standard and the occasional drop D.

And I REALLY want a steel-string acoustic. I've never personally owned one, but I've played them all the time. Even the bad steel strings sound pretty good.

I like alternate tunings more than I like standard...

DGCGCD (for the Rain Song)
BDDDDD (for Iris)
DbAbDbAbAbDb (for Black Balloon (I think that's right))
DADF#AD (for The Background)

I love alternate tunings...so awesome. Open tunings rock.
