She didn't exactly say they were gods. What she said was that they have been considered gods, angels and, now, superheros. Implying that throughout time people have viewed them as different "things". For example, a thousand years ago they wouldn't have been considered superheros because there was no such thing. So, the people of that time would have considered them to be some god or god-like being.

Just clearing that up.

I just saw the movie. It was really good until I found out that Reys wife was a superhero or w/e. It launched into this really complex storyline and had scenes that gave no explanation, like the history of the superheros and the tornados. I think they should have waited to release it. I thought it was good, but I think it was released at the wrong time. Hancock is a superhero movie about a made-up superhero that nobody has ever heard of until now, releasing around the same time as the world famous Iron Man, Hulk, and Dark Knight, which are even now leading up to an Avengers movie and a Justice League movie. With all this hype about all of these awesome superheros, Hancock is just stuck in the shadow of these big names.
