| | The only downside is that it takes forf..kingever to render. 18 hours for my 11 minute 720P Crysis video... | |||||

But there are some other downsides- If people dont have VLC Media Player, they wont be able to play the file, so theres a lost viewer right there. Also, If you are using it to compress clips to edit(as opposed to using for the final cut of the video), when you edit with them, they will lag the program, extremely. I have had too much experience with this because I compressed all my clips to 264, because it was virtually no loss, but WAY less space. Later I found out that I would have to preload every single damn frame. Made editing for a few projects quite a b..ch. But yeah, for the final export, I think 264 is the best bet.

| | Agreed. x264, because of how heavily it's compressed, has a very high CPU usage during playback. If I had to edit it, I would take the time to re-render it to a lossless format (probably huffyuv, or maybe something like largarth (SP)). I save all my H2V clips in Huffyuv... 500-2GB a pop, and that adds up. Good thing I have 300GB free on that drive. | |||||

| | Yeah. I have done that before, and you will still get complaints from people who dont know what a rar is. I have some really good render settings for WMV, so I usually stick with those, but occasionally I use the 264.

In the future, I'm just going to do both. x264 takes so long to render, I may as well do a wmv render along with it. By the time I've rendered & uploaded the wmv, the x264 will probably only be 75% finished. | |||||

Maybe thats cuz its HD, because the 264s that I render dont take long at all.
