Now I know there are many of these threads, and I'm probably not even going to get either of these cards, but I'm wondering:

What are the advantages of one over the other?

What are the disadvantages?

Which is better for things other than Halo/Xbox capturing?

Which would you get?

Simple questions, I just want your take on it.

Oh and I did search, so sorry if there was a thread like this made earlier.

If you get the Intensity, you'd need two of those WD drives in RAID if you're gonna capture uncompressed footage. Otherwise, you'll only be able to capture in MJPEG. I'd go for the Intensity all the way if your computer can handle it.

Like Crest said, you can only capture in MJPEG, plus it's probably still more reliable than the Hauppauge.
You can barely tell the difference between MJPEG and uncompressed with an Intensity anyway.
Still looks great. The Hauppauge is a tad bit lossier? than the Intensity, in my opinion.

Wow... that looked like Crest posting. F.ck off, Slovix

lol I was like "What? Crest hasn't even come close to this."

But not just video quality. I'm guessing optical cables have better audio than HDMI. (Strife, Crest, please correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am.)

In which case I would need a different sound card if I wanted optical. And even then I don't know how well they would work together.

I'm probably WAY overthinking this though...

And I don't know why, but I thought that was Crest too...

Hauppauges don't allow optical audio until the next firmware update,
so cancel that out.

I believe HDMI is the best cable because it's completely digital. As long as the signal gets there, all of the information is passed along, I'm pretty sure, where as signal can be lost with other types of cabling.

Okay well that Hauppauge firmware thing solved it for me. And thanks Cramesta.

I also googled it, and apparently since HDMI can handle a much higher bit-rate, HDMI is better.
