Here it is, the Dazzle 170 Perfect Quality Tutorial. After releasing a quality test, and getting a "It looks good." comment from Crest, many people IM'd me or PM'd me asking for a tutorial. So, I wrote it up and posted it here. I tried to have as many pictures as possible as well as go into as much detail as possible. I think I did pretty good. Here we go!

Materials needed:

• Dazzle 170, Platinum Edition
• S-Video Cable
• Studio 10 (Comes with Dazzle 170)
• Xilisoft(Unregistered Works)

Step 1: Getting Ready

• Open Studio 10.
• Hit the "Capture" tab, then hit the "Settings..." button.

Step 4: Project Preferences


Step 5: Video and Audio Preferences


Once you've completed those steps, click ok. Then at the bottom, on the left of the little thing, click the blue circle. Then choose these values.

Now, you're done with Studio 10. If you did this correctly, there should've been no video or audio preview while recording (to prevent dropped frames, etc.) and there shouldn't have been a detecting scenes message box. The video should've automatically been made. Now to compression.

Materials Needed for Part 2:

• Film Recorded
• Xilisoft Video Converter

Step 1: Open Xilisoft and hit "Add", at the top left.
Step 2: Highlight the video and under profile (at the bottom), click "Windows Media Video".
Step 3: Highlight the video once again and over to the right, make these changes --

• Video Size: 720x480
• Bit Rate: 2000
• Same Quality: True

Step 4: Hit "Encode" at the top. If you have the unregistered version, a message will pop-up saying that you need to register / buy the product or you will only be able to encode the first 5 minutes of a video. Just hit "Later", at the bottom right, and the video will continue to encode. Once the video has completed it's encoding, then you're done!

Good Job, you made it through the tutorial!

Quality is laggy and aside from that its decent. Thats all the 170 can even get is decent.

There are a few things that could be done differently... And the final encoding is lossy.

MP4 is not x264 as commonly mistaken. It is just the container.

Okay, both of the links are fixed.
To download the .MP4 one, you have to Right-Click, Save-As.
That quality is pretty good.

To download the .WMV one, you just have to click it and choose where you want to save it.
However, yes, the quality is lossy.

Also, I didn't think that .MP4 was x264. I never said it was in the first place...

Ok, Crest told me not to convert to .WMV; to keep it in .MP4.
So, right now I'm uploading the best quality that I've managed to get with this method. It's 26mb for about 30 seconds and it's Halo 3 so that you'll really know the quality that you'll get for my Recording Service. It's actually pretty decent. I think I need to mess with the Saturation / Color, though.

the quality is lossy i still think people should encode at 8mbps bitrate and then once done with the final tage just encode in x264 also why do people make tutorials in the halo3 section on how to get good quality in h2
