You're kidding right? I'm sorry but what do you think won all of Dymdez' fans over? Honestly? It was his insane footage, at the time. Along with Forza's style of editing. Even now i look back and still consider some of the clips he had to be pretty crazy. I think you might have missunderstood why people liked him.

Even I admited i didn't deserve to win. To this day i hold tightly to that statement. Titan and HaloGod both had better montages than me and should have been in the final round together. When i was put up against sexorcist i thought i was boned, honestly. If you don't believe me, i don't care. I'll express my opinion and say that i believed the HaloGod deserved the win for contest number 2.

Dunno about the "hands down" winning part. But i do agree Titan stood a better chance than what was given to him. I still think ArKive's was pretty sick but to be truthful, i don't even remember who won that one. I'm sure popularity had something to do w/ it since that is basically what montages are now.... popularity.

But..

Vrbas your montage deserved to win it was something totally new. It spawned a breed of Epic montages which is still to some extent continuing at the moment. don't be too harsh.

Alot of people keep bringing this up...It is not a popularity contest, the reason the pros and big names get alot of the votes is because of their skill. If theyre more skilled they have bigger more impressive and entertaining plays. Also because they are big names, the best editors are willing to edit for them or they can do it so well themselves (In shooK's case). So now it is simply because they do have the better montage, period.

Dymdez' gameplay was not that good. There were montages with much better gameplay at the time of his montage. Only reason why his got more attention was because of the editing. No one had a fast and aggresive style of editing like Forza did which made Dymdez look like some super-spartan. Many people including myself seen through the editing and actually payed attention to the gameplay which was not very good. 95% MM with training clips thrown in, too. That is the reason why I never liked his montage, but that style of editing brought about new styles of editing, such as yours if I am not mistaken. All I'm saying is that I thought his gameplay was never that great, even the first day I watched it I posted that same exact thought. Anyone can go into MM and go for montage clips like he did, which consisted of mainly single kills. Not impressive.

don't take this the wrong way cuz i've recently found myself playing MLG-type games a lot more, but anyone can go into a custom game and go for montage clips also.
and arguing about his gameplay not being that good. i have no idea what contest with dymdez you're talking about cuz i haven't been on the forum for too long, but from what i've read about it i can tell you this: if the gameplay is awsomely stellar( ), but the editing is significantly lacking, i'd rather see a montage with basic, better-than-average plays with either basic editing that really works well with a/v(e.g. halogod's untouchable) or a montage with above-average plays that are edited really well for an overall ENTERTAINING watch. some people forget that most montages are made to entertain, not simply to show off one's skill. cuz if it was all about the gameplay, editing would never have to be an element of a montage.
sometimes a more basic editing approach better suits the gameplay than trying to edit the hell out of it, and ending up leaving flaws in certain places. basic idea is that different people look for different things in a montage - gameplay, editing, w/e.
and does popularity play a huge role in a person's decision? if he/she is whipped by the mere thought of a pro, then yea, it does. but in this recent contest, only 3rd place and down were fought bitterly over this. at least H2F can say the the two best montages earned their respective places.
as for the other montages, i thought imo that arkive's was better than OMN's. no, i don't have anything against oscarmayerninja, i just didn't enjoy his style of editing. to me arkive's was more entertaining to watch and that's why i voted him above oscar.
and while on the subject of montage contests, i would like for someone to find me the thread with scorpiohunter's 4th montage. i'll save you the time and tell you that his montage was deleted from the announcement thread from which it was first placed. i just think it sucks for him since his was REALLY well done and his montage never received proper recognition at all.
he didn't even have his own thread for his montage, it was placed in an announcement from z which said something about the servers. so random posters just did what they do best, and hit "post reply" w/o even reading and said, "good job z. keep up the great work." i'm not saying this was a direct attack on scorpio in any way, i just want to show how some montages do not receive proper attention/appreciation for all the hard work that goes into making a montage. what some people don't realize is that for those 5-9 minutes of glory, montage-makers go through weeks/months trying to perfect everything. so when they post something which they broke their ass for, don't just say, "you suck. editing sucked. quit halo", give them a thought from your perspective about how they could improve for their next
