InVINCEable: I said no, without reading your prior post, because I was trying to protect my friend. I apologize. No hard feelings. |
Incorrect. Many games are considered some of the best games out and have no story line, at all.
Considering games like BF2 and BF2142 their single player is you vs. bots, yet, it is one of the most popular games world wide. Coincidence? I think not. Counter Strike as well has absolutely no story either. It is one of the most popular games world wide and THAT, is a fact my friend.
This is arguable but I consider MMORPG games also popular due to their multilayer value. Yes, it has a story line but I bet 9/10 people you ask in World of Warcraft, what happen during the Warcraft 1, 2, and 3 series they won't have a damn clue. Reason I find this arguable because you "create" your own story but that is only possible with other players.
This somewhat goes for sport games as well like Madden or NBA. These games sell out due to the fun multilayer value against other players, not through season mode which is VERY repeatable with almost no surprises. Artificial intelligence can only get so far, predicting what will be the CPU's next move isn't so tough.
Yes, I won't fully disagree with you though. Campaign/story is VERY important. It is like a book. You read, read, read, and read some more because it is SO interesting until you finish it. But, after that, it stays on the bookshelf, untouched.
I got pumped up and I can go on forever but I'll rest my case here. I just visited these forums to get the spoiler (I'm a weird type of guy, I like surprises but if I can find out something before most other people, I go for it) and make a statement about what makes a game popular.
