I POSTED THIS OVER AT MLGPRO.COM AND CHECK OUT THESE KIDS - Click

I am bored and have some down time so I have decided to share my knowledge of 1v1s with the rest of H3F.

First off, chances are that your opponent was talking crap in the game before, so let go of all of your emotions, as they will cause you to play worse than you really are. Tea-bagging is going to happen, just let it go and tea-bag back if necessary. Also, mute the other player if he is constantly trying to get into your head.

Now for the actual game.

I play MLG Guardian with MLG TS v5 Settings but with radar on and score to win at 15 and sometimes with a game time limit of 20 minutes. Some like to play without radar and that is fine, I don't like the lack of radar because if you have radar, you can crouch to not appear on it, but there is nothing you can do to be shown on radar if there is none. The last sentence may be confusing, I am sorry if it is :/ Anyways, let's go over some MLG Guardian facts:

Snipe Spawn Time - 2:30
Camo Spawn Time - 2:00
Mauler Spawn Time - 3:00 (This might be wrong, correct me if I am incorrect and I will edit it)
Grenade Spawn Time - 0:10
BR/Carbine Spawn Time - 0:30/1:30

For the beginning of the match:

You have two places you can spawn: elbow or bottom blue.

ELBOW

If you spawn elbow chances are you want to run for the sniper at the sniper tower, but your opponent might be thinking the same thing, so I would run up to Sniper 2, and run in front of Sniper Tower and look towards bottom blue lift/ path of lift and see if he is charging you. If he is not, then he is going to Top Blue or Camo, he is most likely not giving up Camo and running Bottom Mid for Mauler, but he might be. So if you do not see him, run BACK to S2 and go up to S3 for Sniper that way, do NOT jump up to S3 from Top Mid as he can shoot you if he has the angle.

BOTTOM BLUE

You have quite a few options from here: you can charge Sniper (not advised but I sometimes do this), you can charge Camo (which is probably your best bet), or you can unexpectedly run Bottom Mid and grab Mauler (NOT RECOMMENDED). If you decide to run to Camo, after you jump up to G2 from "Gay Jump" you need to jump across the open frotn part of Gold WHILE facing Sniper to see if your opponent has grabbed Sniper yet or what he is doing (remember to watch your radar just in case he was dumb enough to go for Camo instead of Sniper). Then when you decide to go for Camo (MAKE IT QUICK!) then look down and away from Sniper Tower and he will NOT get you in the head... he might get you in the body and drop your shields, but you can safely maneuver your way to safety while your shields recharge.
If you decide to lift over to Sniper Tower, make sure you nade the perfect spot (we all know it) so it will bounce to S2 and damage anybody there (the only person there) so if he pops out you can 1 shot him in the head and grab the Sniper.

NOTE - If you get a kill in the beginning there is a VERY GOOD CHANCE that your opponent will spawn in Blue Hallway on the Gold side, so watch out while going for Camo.

If you got Sniper in the beginning and the other guy got Camo, hope to God he drops down to G1. At this point, chances are he is going to go for Mauler, so make sure you CROUCH or he will track your moves. If you see him jump down to G1 then IMMEDIATELY jump TOP MID and crouch, and stay off his radar. Crouch walk to Top Blue and you can chill until his Camo wears out. NOTE - This is NOT being p.ssy as Camo is definitely difficult to see for some people. If you do not know if he dropped down, then you're screwed and you need to WATCH YOUR SCREEN LIKE FEARITSELF. If you don't know where Camo is, you need to stay where you are, as dumb as that sounds, it is true. You should stand S2 and watch Top Mid, Bottom Mid, and Elbow. If he lifts over, life is easy as he will appear on radar. Stand on the little ledge in back of S2/S1 so you can see Bottom Mid and Top Mid at the same time... if you see the Mauler get picked up or you see pixels move by the Mauler then JUMP TOP MID AND RUN BLUE, INSTANTLY. It is not worth fighting Camo and losing your best power weapon. If you don't see any movement then he is lifting over or coming Elbow, so just check Elbow every now and then and throw a couple plasmas there, because plasmas spawn up top at S3.

Now I will talk about setting up places and how to play

Holding Down Sniper Tower:

First off, this is not the best thing to do in my opinion, and here is why. Sniper Tower can be attacked from many places, making is extremely vulnerable. It can easily be naded from Top Mid and Gold 2 in a spot that will allow the grenade to explode and deliver damage to anybody standing in the back corner of S2. It is also easy to grenade S3 from almost anywhere. It can be charged from Tree, Elbow, Top Blue, Bottom Blue, Top Mid from Gold 2, it is just too easily destroyed as anybody with half a brain can break this set up. So don;t be the typical retard and just camp sniper tower the whole game. You can, by all means, but I wouldn't.

Playing at Green:

Tree, or Green, is a very easy place to play and a very big power position in Team-Based Games. It is very easy to stay behind cover and snipe Top Blue, S3, S2, Elbow, "Gay Jump", Top Gold, Blue-Gold Jump, as well as Camo and Bottom Mid and Top Mid. You also have that nifty little tree spot near Elbow, and can be used to run around, running from your opponent in order to stay alive. Green also allows for the running to Elbow to Snipe Bottom-Blue Lift and you can Snipe Blue-Lift from Green, but this can be difficult on some hosts. Two frags spawn in back of 'stump'.

Playing at Top Gold:

You shouldn't be playing Bottom Gold, let's face it, that is just plain dumb, but if you happen to be forced there or spawn there, instead of taking the lift, just use the G1-G2 jump. Almost NEVER use the lift if you know this jump... the left jump can also be used to get to Top Gold without being seen from S3. Top Gold also allows for many ways to be attacked, but not as many as Sniper Tower and Top Gold also allows for many SAFE ways to escape from danger. You need to watch out for the following places where you can be attacked from:

Camo/Camo Lift
Top Mid
Bottom Mid (DUMB)
Gay Jump/Bottom Blue
Top BLue
Blue/Gold Hallway

just make sure nobody is charging you from these ways and you are set. Most of the time if you just check Blue every now and then you should be safe from attackers and you can attack Sniper 2/3, Top Tree, Bottom Tree (to an extent), Top/Bottom Blue and Bottom Mid, as well as Blue Hallway. Gold is a very sneaky place to be as it also allows you to instantly grab Camo when it comes up, so make sure you watch out for that Camo sound. the down-side: Sniper is a little difficult to grab on the other side of the map, so make sure you can post up here with a Sniper.

Playing at Blue:

Here is one of the best places to be, along with Green (MY OPINION). Top Blue allows for a large-range of sight while being able to be charged from very very few places... You need to watch out for Bottom Blue, Gold (Top and Bottom... Bottom can lead to Bottom Blue) and Top Mid... that is it (Sniper2/3 can lead to Top Mid). You can shoot at Green, Sniper 3, Bottom Blue, Gold, quite a few places. You can even shoot Bottom Green and Bottom Mid/Gold (to an extent). You also have (basically) an unlimited supply of frag grenades here at Top Blue so you have four frags at most in one spot, allowing for a good defensive tactic if you are getting charged. You can also escape down Blue Hallway, Top Gold, Bottom Gold, Bottom Blue, Top Mid (that little hiding spot you will soon see in an upcoming gameplay... captured in HD by Robosteeze ), it just allows for a wide range of choices without being too restricted as you can also lift over to Snipe Tower is necessary.

A couple side notes:

- Always time every power weapon and power up. If you see him grab Camo, check the time, and also remember that Camo lasts for only 30 seconds.

- Watch your radar. Sometimes if people jump, shoot, throw a grenade, accidently let go of crouch, they will slip up and you will see them on your radar.

-Try not to put yourself in a situation you cannot handle. For example, I can hold my own very well at Bottom Mid where others cannot, so if your forte is NOT a place, avoid it at all costs... some people just can't play well at certain areas, so know your limits.

- Nade Points. Learn where grenades land when you throw them. This should be learned while playing any gametype on Guardian, but there is only one opponent, so 1 grenade cannot damage their entire team or even one person, it can ONLY damage one person, so make it count.

- Don't piss away your grenades unless you need to live (in that case, it isn't pissing them away).

- Always move around and stay random, never do the same thing twice.

- People usually don't spawn in the same spot twice, and if you are at Gold, your opponent can spawn Bottom Blue, Blue Hallway, Green, or rarely at Snipe Tower. If you are at Blue, Sniper, or Gold, chances are he will spawn at Green. If you are at Blue, sometimes people spawn at Gold... bottom AND top, so watch out. Throwing grenades can sometimes help you kill people off the spawn, but most of the time grenades can help force the spawn to be somewhere else. Spawn-Predicting is best learned from experience.

I will try to answer any and all questions to the best of my abilities, so ask way.

I will keep this updated as I remember things or see things I forgot.

Also, I spent quite a bit of time writing this up as I had to remember everything from memory and I had a few distractions, so please, don't be harsh and be like, "ZOMG, 1v1 DOESN'T PROVE ANYTHING" because that is not what this is about. Thank you.

Hope this helped you,

ThaggleS

Everyone knows ThaggleS is a 1v1 guru. :P
Nice guide though. It's excellent.

I like to move around a lot when I play 1v1, or really when I'm warming up with my friend before we play MLG.
He says I "run", even though I have full shields.
I refer to it as "avoiding a bad situation", and playing smarter.
Hehe, I hope you see this Matt.

But yeah, once again, excellent write-up.

I think I will get a lot of these so I will make a list of people who I will add on random tags because I will be on random Xbox's. Post your gamertag with a little "I wanna play you" post and I will add you when I get the chance. make sure to specify ZERO's and O's and L's and i's.

First off, I edited the quote with a few fixes, because bad grammar burns my eyes.

Second, to answer the question, they usually don't spawn in the same place twice, but the spawns should be like:

Bottom Green
S2
Top Gold
Bottom Gold
Bottom Blue

Watch those areas.

Ok, this is a very easy one.

The BR stands for Battle Rifle, it was very good in Halo 2 but has been ruined in Halo 3. Understand?

Phazix 7 2: It has baffled me so
ThaggleS: Yea, same here... I figured it out, though.

I very sneakily proceed to shoot and beat him down. I then teabag the enemy in pure ecstasy. My question for you is, what happens when my camo runs out? I don't think I could survive without it. It's my lifeline for Halo 3.
At this point I would just run around looking straight down, not knowing where to go... or just hide with your mauler out until Camo spawns again and slowly ninja yourself towards it.

And quite a few people have the mauler/camo reflex

Come in from Top Blue and go down Blue Ramp and nade from that angle... or you can do Top Mid to Bottom Blue jump and sneak up on him from that angle since he won't be expecting you to come from over there since you weren't on radar.

1v1 shows TREU SKIEL!

But I don't think I could ever take a Halo 3 1v1 seriously, I'm just not that competitive.
