Did you restart your router? That's happened before, when it wouldn't change. After restarting and power cycling it eventually changed.

If your NAT is open and you still can't join someone's party, I can only guess that that is Halo 3 being annoying. You should be able to join everyone if it's open.

Or just download the latest Xbox 360 approved Router Firmware, and reboot everything.

For some reason, I doubt every router manufacturer would make a firmware just for the Xbox.

They don't, but usually most routers realize that people will be connecting Video game Consoles to them, so pretty much every firmware coming out now has the NAT preset to be open.

so in my instance, would i have to find the main router here at my college so I could make the NAT open.....or would some main admin here have to do that?

I tried what you've said and the damn thing still says Strict. Whats the other way?

Edit: Restarted everything and went down to moderate. Why isn't it Open?

Yeah. Same here. I've followed step by step but it still says "strict"
Anyway, I use "Netgear WGR614 v5"
