I'm feelin' a full review.
The gameplay was good. It wasn't particularily spectacular, but the fact that for ocne in a long ass time, it was in actual legitimate games. It's been far too long since I've seen a legit gametype montage with gameplay this good. So props for that. There were clips I felt weren't needed, such as some of the doubleshots triples, but others were great.
What I'd like to see from you is combine your 1v1 style into team games. It's somebody like you I'd expect to see a sweet all headshot triple or quickscope for killtac, and that was something I was missing. What I noticed is that you play a certain style in 1v1, and a completely different style in team and FFA games. I'd like to see you merge the two, if you make another. See what I mean?
Now the editing, I'd like to point out alot of things. Since all editing is based on the music, I'll start there. The music was okay. It had alot of sync points, but the songs themselves seemed pretty bland. Don't get me wrong though. What I'm trying to say is that abreact would feel an urge to do a color correction, but there'd be no place to put it, because the music simply never (or rarely) had that feel. So this led to alot of odd screen looks, that just looked useless and were just kind of distracting. Less is more, abreact, less is more. And no, I'm not the type of guy who prefers "chill" montages (or in my opinion, lazily put together) montages over edited ones.
There were alot of sloppy points, but all could be easily fixed.
- Screen shakes. Please, please use rotation. They simply look like crap if you don't. This is something I've said before, and I really keep stressing it. Use rotation on screen shakes.
- Camera moves. You do this very often. Instead of having the camera move into towards the screen and then move out, what you do is just go straight from normal view, then really close and move out. It looks much better if you do the first option, it's less awkward. There are exceptions, but in general, having the move in is something you'd want to add.
- Color corrections. I mentioned this before. The vast majority of them seemed out of place, such as a few seconds of inversion that seemed very odd, and just alot of colors that simply didn't relate to the music at all.
- Losing some of the gameplay. Some of the 1v1 clips I felt I didn't see enough of. Sure, the kill itself is short, but it just doesn't look good if you don't see the situation it was in.
Now let's look at the positives.
- This video had good flow, overall. It was normally smaller time adjustments, which is good.
- Most of the syncing was spot on. Except for a clip here and there, the clips were matching up pretty well.
- The credits were pretty good. The only spites I have about the credits were that the music wasn't quite the best pair with the bloopers. It reminded me of IWL 6th style credits, but the footage and the editing weren't quite. The find edges you used was okay, but just be sure you don't use it like that in the actual gameplay portions in the future.
The quality wasn't spectacular, but I really don't care at all.
Both of you did a great job, but I think you could both take yourselves to the next level. Especially you, abreact.
