Hello, I need help using Fraps... while i'm not very good I still like to keep records of things in case something amazing or funny happens. I have a few questions though.

1) My Native monitor resolution is 1280 x 1024, and I'd like to record at 1280 x 720 but I know if I set the game to 720p then my game will look like sh.t! How should I go about doing that?

2) Once I've recorded the clips, I want to keep them fairly uncompressed but I don't want them to be huge, what codec should I use?

3) Right now I play on all high at 1280 x 1024 at no matter what keep a steady frame rate of 60 frames. I'd really like to keep a 60 frame rate while recording, I can only steadily keep a 30 though. Right now I have a 2.5ghz AMD Dualcore Processor, 550w PSU, One 7200RPM Hard Drive, 2GBs of Ram and a 8800 GT 512mb (Please note if more information is needed). What should I upgrade so I can record at 60fps.

Thanks, Auro!

if you have a 8800GT, then I'd recommend you get a faster harddrive/larger. I can record 720p60 though my 500gb is filling up.

For 720p in H2V, you have two options. Run it in a window, or do a fixed aspect ratio. For nvidia, go to the control panel. Under the display manager for your particular display. Select Nvidia Scaling with Corrected aspect.

When you load up it will load up as if you were watching a 720p video in full screen.

How do you force games to run in windowed mode even though they don't support it? I've been wanting to do some 720P gameplays (Already made one in Crysis, but I'm waiting to upload it), but since I have my crappy 1280x1024 monitor, it stretches the image.

I generally take a 20-50% hit in performance when I try and record gameplay. It's the same weather it's going to my 3 RAID'd 80GB drives (100 MB\s write speeds), or my 640GB drive. Both have about 150GB free.

Halo2 has an option in the videos section. Set it from FullScreen to windowed.

There isn't a command line unfortunately. With vista it's nice since you can customize your preset command lines.

Oh, I don't have Vista anymore. I'm running XP, and I like it quite a bit better.

Are you asking about Halo2 though? Forcing stuff into a window isn't a global thing from what I can see. It's application specific unless you do some code hacking.

Oh, I was wondering if you could apply it to just about every game. I know Oblivion, Audio-Surf, WoW, and H2V now have windowed modes (basically all the major ones I play).

I didn't know it was app specific though.

Well some just don't have an option from what I see, such as GRID.

Bah, oh well.

I'm gona go record some more here in a bit.

Also, why does Fraps split the video into 4.somethingGB files? It's pretty damn annoying, and I have to use Vegas to splice them all together and render them in x264, rather than just using Vdub.

I can't find an option in Fraps to change it either.

1)FAT32
2)Safer, incase one video corrupts.

It's annoying sometimes for me if I record alot in one round. But you could try emailing Beepa about it, I emailed them about the 5.1 support in vista, and low and behold they fixed the issue and released the new version. A couple of my messages have been introduced into new versions.
