In order to help MLG grow and evolve even more more contestants need to show up to MLG events. The downside to this is the fact that some gamers are not in a finacialy stable condition to make their way their. So, people then look towards aquiring a sponsor for their team so they can attend. These are some tips and stratagies to help you aquire a sponsor for you and/or your team. READING THIS WILL NOT GARANTEE YOU AQUIRING A SPONSOR!
Step One: Check your local newspaper to help you find reachable companies that may be interested. Also I find going to Google.com and searching your area code or state for local buisnesses effective as well.
Step Two: Have someone from your team or find a willing manager to either write to one of the companies you are intrested in explaining both what MLG is and what the events are. Also include how sponsoring your team will affect them and better their company. Butter them up so to say.
Step Three: Have either your manager or a member of your team write a formal buisiness/persausive letter on how this could better their company and make them a stronger and more respected company in their community. Expand on on step two.
*Make sure you use proper and correct language in the formal letter and do not hint at all on what they have to pay for in order for your teammates and you to get to the event.
Step Four: Wait for a response from the company. Give your letter or email two or three business days before expecting a reply. If the company replies that they are not intrested in the field of gaming at this moment respond with a thank you for their time and repeat steps one through three. If the company is intrested in maybe finacing your team then try and setup a meeting with managers/owners.
Helpful Things to Include
*Your previous placings at past events*
*Valid proof that you have a top caliber team*
*Show them gaming vidioes of you beating top level teams*
What to Avoid
*Do not give away your teams financial standings*
*Do not hint that they NEED to fund your team, you do not want to sound desperate*
*DO NOT LIE TO THE COMPANY*
Things to remember
*Give the company time*
*Don't contact bisiness' that are just starting out, most times they will not be in good enough financial standings to finance a team*
*Be polite*
*Make sure you talk to manager/owner not employees*
I hope this information will help teams be able to attend events and help MLG grow. If anyone has any other questions or suggestions that you want me to update tell me and I will gladly add them to the thread.
Suggestions From: TheBlueBlur
Definitely go to local tourney's with a good 2v2, 4v4 team. Me and my old partner corwin won at this local gaming store 8 times in a row and began growing as well known players in ga. We were then sponsored by the company and krunk energy drink for a few months, but they were only willing to pay entry fee to local tourneys. Don't expect much, but in order to get a full sponsorship, you have to start small at locals and eventually once you get a used to it, you'll get a pattern going, and the more people that know you in the state; like goin to tourneys and someone that you don't know knows you there; then the stores and local state companies know who you are. The gaming ones at least. Once you've started off small, if you win, you'll become big, in the state to start. From their, with your popularity you will have companies asking you if they can sponsor you, so that their store becomes known not only state wide but nation wide. It's a mutual relationship. You want them to sponsor you, and they want you to sponsor them, by wearing their merch and stuff.
