Hello Newcomers!
............................................
As your first begin visiting the Graphics Section, You will look at many sigs and be like damn, I wish I could make myself a sig... To be honest, its not too hard. Give it a half hour of your time and you can be on the road to be the best here.

What are the generic programs used to make a sig?
The Classic Adobe Photoshop CS2 is what most of the artists here use. It allows you to combine, alter, and adjust images to make them into your own.

Ok, cool, now where do I get it?

You may find many sources to find photoshop. If you google it, and look for a free one, youll get hacked and cluttered with trojans, so hear me out. Go Here and download the 2 files. The top is the trial Version, and The bottom is the key.gen.

This damn key.gen sucks!
No! It doesn't. What you do is, when it asks you if you want to end the trial or enter a code, choose to enter the code. After that, you will look for a little button that says activate by phone. Click this. Enter the code given to you by adobe in the key.gen, and click generate Authorization code. Transfer #s back and forth until its done. [only three sets]. After all is said and done, you will have the full version of Photoshop.

Ok, I have it open, but how the hell do I do anthing?!
File > new. That simple. Try the dimensions as 400 x 140. You may wish to alter this to your liking later one, but this is the generic Dimensions of a sig. Now you have a Blank Canvas. Some beginner strategys are to use brushes. In my personal opinion, Deviantart.com is the bets place to find your brushes. You can search Grunge brushes, Absract brushes, Splatter brushes etc. You add a render in too. OMG where are the renders?!?! Thanks to Smuttny, you can find a breif list of excellent sites Here. When you brush, look for a color in your render, and if you wish, you can use the eye dropper tool which conveniently replaces your foreground color with the color of the spot you click on. =]

Tools:
Rectangular Marquee Tool (M): It is used for making selection on the image (objects) on any active layer.
Magic Wand Tool (W): Used for making selection (similar colors at once for example)
Polygonal Lasso Tool (L): Used for making free selection as you go
Slice Select Tool (K): Used for selecting slices
Crop Tool (C): Used for cropping images
Patch Tool (J): Used for correcting images
Brush Tool (B): Used for drawing freehand
History Brush Tool (Y): Used for restoring specified history state
Clone Stamp Tool (S): Used for selecting a source and copying (drawing) it in another place
Gradient Tool (G): Used for making gradient effect on images
Eraser Tool (E): You are right, this tool is used for erasing
Dodge Tool (O): Used for making images lighter (And Burn tool makes the opposite - darker)
Horizontal Type Tool (T): Yes used for inserting text to image
Path Selection Tool (A): Used for selecting the active path
Custom Shape Tool (U): Used to insert pre-specified (ready) shapes to image
Pen Tool (P): Used for creating vector shapes
Eyedropper Tool (I): Used for selecting color
Notes Tool (N): Used for inserting notes on the image
Zoom Tool (Z): Yes used for zooming in or out
Hand Tool (H): Used for dragging image when you are in the zoom in state

Those are some basic defentitions of the photoshop tools. (Also Realize, you can access more tools by right clicking the original tool button!)

This Thread was great and all but i still dont know how to use photoshop...
There are many awesome tutorials at gamerenders.com... I have a few of my own, but after a few months ask me about them, their not too easy.

HAPPY HUNTING!

To install brushes to photoshop
Download them from deviantart.com
Copy the file
Go to C: Drive>Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop Cs2>Presets>Brushes
Paste them
When in Photoshop select the brush tool and go to load brushes. It should be under where you just pasted them.Click append and you have your brushes downloaded
