What are everyone's views on the Iraq war? How many of you actually support the war? Sorry if a thread like this was already made.

I support the war effort and I don't think we should pull out now. It's too late to pull out and if we pull out now, then all of the men who died for the effort went for nothing. And we can't just leave right away. We have to finish what we started. How's it going to look when America invades a country, breaks apart it's government, establishes a new one, and then leaves before the country is stable? All that's going to happen IMO, is that another outside group is going to take over and overthrow the established government. Then we would be back to square one.

After watching Charlie Wilson's War, I realized how it's indirectly America's fault for where we are right now with in to Iraq. If we hadn't spent the money necessary to educate the children in Iraq, the outside groups wouldn't have been able to come in and brainwash the general population into thinking that America is the bad guy. That's why we have to learn from our mistakes and finish what we have started in Iraq. We can't just leave now.

Discuss.

We shouldn't be there in the first place. If there was such a crisis afoot then why didn't the United Nations send troops or even collaborate with us in any way? Because they knew our government was inflating the whole "Our security is being threatened!" schtick to justify an unjustifiable war.

I can only hope the U.S. has learned it's lesson from such a costly war of attrition. Let us not forget the U.S. Military was encouraging our troops to commit certain atrocities for "information" either, because our history books won't.

It's an occupation not a war.. and the Iraqi's want us gone... What more do you need to know.. Occupations aren't won or lost, they are simply ended.

Ha. Well buddy, judging from the history of this administration, I don't think the US' image is top priority.

Seriously though, how's it going to look when the US continues an occupation that was started on lies and false pretenses, which has strengthened Al-Queada, destroyed US credibility, and which has sparked several other terrorist attacks around the world?

Actually, it's pretty much the US' fault where they are (unless by "America's" you mean the civilians).

The war was justified with lies (the whole "It wasn't the administration it was the intelligence" thing was proven to be bullsh.t), and was considered the worst-planned assault in US history. Now the US (and Israel) are globally considered to be the greatest threat to world peace. After what the US has done, the resistance there would have no problem convincing people that the US government is the bad (hell, that doesn't seem to be that far from the truth). Al-Qeada wasn't even originally there before, now they are (though they're only 5% of the insurgent population).

The population wants them out, and many of the insurgents only fight because they want the US out.

Not all of them. My brother said the children and mothers over there were very thankful (he never saw any fathers) and they would always run along the humvees when they were on patrol and say thank you. I've heard similar stories from some of his friends that were in baghdad.

I'm mixed on what to do though. I want us gone but I've seen pictures of how some of them live from my brother. He showed me a family (3 little kids, infant, and mother) that lived off a broken sewage line and beg the soldiers for food-- forgot to mention that they live in a tent among other families. It's depressing to see. I still question why we haven't trained the iraqi soldiers so far. Our boys go through a few months of training and they're sent to Iraq. The military needs to get it's sh.t together or pull out.

@ General- The new quote in your sig is not only the pinnacle of stupidity but it seems to be justifying it at the same time. I literally lol'ed when I read it. All I could think about for the last sentence was that the perfect reply would be, "Well if that's what your religion teaches than it certainly explains a lot!"

As for the topic at hand; its been stated again and again that it was a mistake to invade. It cost American lives and even more Iraqi lives.

Why spend billions of dollars when you have a hundred thousand of the world's best troops to do your work for you? There is no f..king way in hell the Iraqi government is going to do a f..king thing for themselves unless they really believe we're going to leave. Until that time, we're a bunch of baby sitters.

As far as living conditions go, Iraq as a whole is far better off than dozens of nations. They're not well off by any means, but they're doing a hell of a lot better than most.
