Haha we've "always" been hated by the majority? That's a relatively recent development. Everyone used to love the US, especially the common people in other countries who looked to our revolution as an example of the assertion of natural rights and individual liberty. Our revolution inspired the French revolution, who then became our allies.

And why do you think so many immigrants came to the US? They saw it as the land of opportunity. Irish people, as an example, who had their lands stolen by the British and who were suffering from starvation in the potato famine came to the US looking for a better life and jobs where they could make enough money to live at least a decent life.

I support the war in Iraq. They cannot pull out now and leave Iraq without authority and a stable government. I do not blame the Bush administration for starting the war either. They had come to the conclusion, although sketchy, that there were wmd's in Iraq. They also invaded to remove Hussein from his reign. America had reason to believe that they had these weapons because of previous instances in the Persian Gulf War and from sources (questionable to say the least) claiming they had wmd's.
After the end of the 1st Persian Gulf War, America made the decision to allow Hussein to remain in power. This was a questionable decision at the time and looking back, this war could have been avoided if we just dethrowned Hussein. Later after this war, some of the troops that fought the war had illnesses that introduced the possibility of chemical poisoning deployed by Iraq. These illnesses added to the suspicion that we had when deliberating whether or not we entered the war.

I agree with most of your points, but we destroyed all Husseins WMD's during the air war of Desert Storm.
And the choice of leaving Hussein in power wasnt really a bad decision at the time. Our goal was to get his Army out of Kuwait, which we did perfectly and in the process pretty much destroyed his entire army. And as you said in the beginning of your post, no we cant leave. We pretty much f..ked up the whole region by even being there.
Also, how can we not blame the Bush administration for the war... Who else started it.

It might interest you that the UK has commited more troops to Iraq, it was announced when Bush made his last presidential visit to the UK.

As for the US ALWAYS being hated universally that isnt true, do you realise how many European immigrants arrived in the US in the early 1900s before the US became isolationist?

sure you see reports, its the media, bad news makes good stories

its unlikely to truly understand iraqi attitudes toward americans unless you are walking around their streets, asking them, like some of the brave men in our army are doing

Actually, the whole "It wasn't the administration, it was the intelligence" thing was bullsh.t.

(props to Cursed for finding this stuff)

The US had made sure Saddam had no weapons by continuously bombing Iraq for several years after the war.
