Posts: 7,038 | Since this seems to come up every couple weeks anyways for the last 2 years, this will be a thread for those that want to reference evidence involving sexuality, attraction, etc in a scientific way. Evidence for homosexuality gene, it took me more time to number these than it did to find them. And those of you that are too lazy to find these resources on your own may thank me now. This is just 15 of the 264 published scientific papers I found on the subject : 1 R Pool Science 16 July 1993 261: 291-292 [DOI: 10.1126/science.8332894] (in Articles) Evidence for homosexuality gene R Pool Evidence for homosexuality gene. | Comment | News | 0 Genetic...RESEARCH NEWS Evidence for Homosexuality Gene A genetic analysis of 40 pairs...... 2 Twin study links genes to homosexuality C Holden Science 3 January 1992 255: 33 [DOI: 10.1126/science.1553528] (in Articles) ......articles Twin study links genes to homosexuality C Holden Twin study links genes to homosexuality. | News | Comparative Study | Homosexuality | Humans | Male | Nuclear Family...... 3 Title: Evidence for a biological influence in male homosexuality Author: LeVay,-Simon Add.Author / Editor: Hamer,-Dean-H Citation: Scientific American v 270 May 1994. p. 44-9 Year: 1994 Abstract: It is unlikely that any single factor can explain a trait as complex and variable as sexual orientation, but laboratory studies indicate that genes and brain development play a significant role. A brain cell group called the third interstitial nucleus of the anterior hypothalamus has been found to vary in size with gender and with sexual orientation. Family studies have found that the brothers of homosexual men, especially twin brothers, are more likely than men without gay brothers to be gay themselves. Gay brothers are also more likely than others to share matching genes in an X chromosome region called Xq28. People should bear in mind, however, that other claimed discoveries of genes related to personality traits have proved controversial. Furthermore, no specific homosexuality gene has been isolated, nor have investigators determined how such a gene might function. 3 2: Savolainen V, Lehmann L. Here, we formulate and study a series of simple mathematical models for the purpose of predicting empirical patterns that can be used to determine the form of selection that leads to polymorphism of genes influencing homosexuality. In a sample of 98 homosexual and 100 heterosexual men and their relatives (a total of over 4600 individuals), we found that female maternal relatives of homosexuals have higher fecundity than female maternal relatives of heterosexuals and that this difference is not found in female paternal relatives. The study confirms previous reports, in particular that homosexuals have more maternal than paternal male homosexual relatives, that homosexual males are more often later-born than first-born and that they have more older brothers than older sisters. We discuss the findings and their implications for current research on male homosexuality. Posts: 7,038 | So add whatever references you need in this thread. And use it for your debates.

| | If I have a text-book here, at my house, and want to use it in a debate, can I? I'd cite it, of course, but it's not something other people can really see without buying it...What if I 'down-size' content so it can be readily understood. Can I use it then? | |||||

I am imagining this thread as more of a thing for linking sources that can be found on the internet. I will add them all to the first post to keep it up to date on whatever subject you want. If I were to list all of my text books it would be a bit rediculous though. I am sticking with papers about specific topics I come across. I have a few that I read this week that I will post later that were extremely interesting.

Posts: 4,671 | Nobody in my Christian Morality class believes me when I bring up the gay gene. I was hoping that you could tell me which of these articles would be: A) Relatively short B) In language that 10th graders would be able to understand. I haven't the time to read all of them, I'm on a total time shortage. ![]()

Posts: 7,038 | Ok, easy to read: 1. This one has very little genetic terms in it and is a great deal of pedigree analysis in it. It is easy to read but not much for proof I am guessing in their eyes. Plus, is should be in your H.S. library or readily availible online. Title: Evidence for Homosexuality Gene Author: Robert Pool Citation: Science, New Series, Vol. 261, No. 5119 1993-07-16 pp. 291-292 Year: 1993 ISSN: 00368075 External: http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=003...3E2.0.CO%3B2-Z Copyright: Copyright 1992 American Association for the Advancement of Science 2. This one is a bit more technical but it identifies 54 genes that contribute to human sexuality. Tougher to read and you may not have access to it readily there, so if you want send me your email address and I can send you a PDF file of it. Resource: Academic Search Elite (EBSCO) Title: A gay gene? How about 54 of them? Author: Ryan, Benjamin Add.Author / Editor: Ryan, Benjamin Citation: Advocate 11/25/2003 Issue 903, p18 Year: 2003 Abstract: The article reports on the sexual identity of gays and transgender people. A study from the University of California, Los Angeles, supports the argument that sexual identity and perhaps sexual orientation may be hardwired. In a study of mice, researchers identified 54 genes that functioned differently in male and female brains before the appearance of sex hormones. According to researchers, while the study has not identified a gay gene, it may aid in determining sexual identity's genetic origins, particularly in future studies. The study may also aid physicians in identifying the sex of infants born with ambiguous genitalia. Let me know if this helps, it really is a collection of works though, I have 118 that talk specifically about gay genetics in our library database that I can send you Heres a screen shot:

| | are we allowed to post abstracts or titles of articles/papers that most probably people would not have ready access to. my school has dozens of databases that search through journals and such (jstor, for example), but most people don't have subscription to it. should i still cite them or just articles that can be viewed by all/most?

Posts: 25 | Here was a change, and wow gold here were claims which could not but operate! She might have disdained him in all the dignity of angry virtue, in the wow gold grounds of Sotherton, or the theatre at Mansfield Park; but he approached her now with rights that demanded different treatment. She must be courteous, and she must be compassionate. She must have a sensation of being honoured, and whether thinking of herself or her brother, she must have a strong wow gold feeling of gratitude. The effect of the whole was a manner so pitying and agitated, and words intermingled with her refusal so expressive of obligation and concern, that to a temper of vanity and hope like Crawford's, the truth, or at least the strength of her indifference, might well be questionable; and he wow power leveling was not so irrational as Fanny considered him, in the professions of persevering, assiduous, and not desponding attachment which closed the interview. weiwei1978123 | ||||
