| | If you know no one at the college you're going to, get in the dorms. It's a GREAT way to meet people.

| | Yes, and no. If you are going to college and doing something that comes natural to you, then no. But if you're going to learn something you know nothing about, and learning/studying is hard for you, then yes. I personally have to take Adderall in order for me to sit down and study/learn material. So I'm a try hard at some things, like Accounting, but not at English and Psychology.

Posts: 3,214 | Like you said it depends heavily on the specific class that you take. For instance, a good student would do his homework assigned every night and leave the weekends open to have fun or go work at a part time job. Nearly every single class has some kind of required reading. I'm taking Sociology, Calculus 3, Intro to Western Civilization (American history), Intro the Geology, and Russian History since 1917. The teacher also can influence heavily how much reading you have also. (check ratemyprofessor.com) If I read everythying that I'm supposed to I would be reading about 2 hours per night with about 1 hour of general studying/working problems. When you get papers they take anywhere from 10-15 hours to write a good paper and maybe 5 - 10 hours to write a mediocre paper. I think on my first russian history paper I spent around 20 hours and got a 95 and turned out very very well. Your grades in college and what you get out of it depends entirely on how much you care and how much effort you put into it. Hope that helped some.

| | got another question... right now i am not studying anything that i find interesting. however i would like to study engineering, and while i believe i have the mental capacity for it i can safely say i am borderline ADD. im thinking about getting some Adderall from a friend, does it really work? im dead serious i actually want to be able to sit down and study and if im in front of a computer i get nothing done. | |||||

| | Me and my girlfriend will likely be 45 mins. away from each other (different universities). From your personal experience, will this have a big impact on our relationship?

And on the three tests I took on it; Geology, Calculus, and Psychology, I got A's on them all. Only getting B's before...

You need to make sure you have a VERY balanced schedule with your girlfriend, friends, and school. I say try it, because I'm in no position to tell you not to.

I'm a mechanical engineering major, and it's definitely not easy. I had a 4.15 in high school, and college is completely different than high school. It's much tougher and requires more self-discipline. Also, if you must love math if you want to be an engineer, just so you know. I hate chemistry, so there's no way I could be a chemical engineer, but if you like that, then you could do it. Thankfully, tomorrow night is my LAST chemistry final/test I will have to take for my major. Also, Nok, you're list in the OP is so true. Literally everything on there is huge. The first week of school is the time to make new friends. After that, everyone already has made their cliques. Also, the AP credits I took the tests for helped me a ton. I got to register a lot earlier for classes too because of it. After this semester I'll have 48 hours, and I'm only a freshman. Taking 18 credits of AP classes with the tests in high school paid off.
