America had reason to believe that they had these weapons because of previous instances in the Persian Gulf War and from sources (questionable to say the least) claiming they had wmd's.
After the end of the 1st Persian Gulf War, America made the decision to allow Hussein to remain in power. This was a questionable decision at the time and looking back, this war could have been avoided if we just dethrowned Hussein. Later after this war, some of the troops that fought the war had illnesses that introduced the possibility of chemical poisoning deployed by Iraq. These illnesses added to the suspicion that we had when deliberating whether or not we entered the war. |
I agree with most of your points, but we destroyed all Husseins WMD's during the air war of Desert Storm.
And the choice of leaving Hussein in power wasnt really a bad decision at the time. Our goal was to get his Army out of Kuwait, which we did perfectly and in the process pretty much destroyed his entire army. And as you said in the beginning of your post, no we cant leave. We pretty much f..ked up the whole region by even being there.
Also, how can we not blame the Bush administration for the war... Who else started it.
