Why do those against same-sex marriage seem to not be able to comprehend that these people will be together regardless of whether they are allowed to legally marry or not?

All this does is give them the same rights as anyone else. It's not as if they're going to go "Oh wellz, I guess if we can't be legally married we shouldn't waste our time being gay anymore."
